A serious promotion goes to …

Posted By on May 9, 2013

Now, I’ve always been honest amount my views, a large number of the crochet books I bought were tat and probably best used as fire kindling to be honest, and recently having gotten into knitting (I so need to wash my mouth with soap) I bought some knitting needle, the addi click short lace ones are pants.. Seriously, the join is too much of a ridge, and the yarn is constantly snagging on it.. Incredibly disappointing – as they werent cheap!

However, I would like to give a major big up to craftsy who not only do some great paid for classes, which are many hours in length, and you get to post questions and have the tutor reply, as well as other people, but they also do a number of free ones, ranging from how to make tasty pizza, to sewing machines, crochet, knitting, caking making .. and more still coming..

I confess, Im enrolled on 18 classes now, some are free ones, some arent..

I loved Lucy Neatby’s double knitting class, in fact, to the point I really wish she had done the rest of the knitting classes, she has a wonderful sense of humour, and I will probably sign up for any classes she does in the future.. However..

My current one Im working through which is “Knit this – mastering lace shawls” the content is good enough, but Im finding the instructor slightly wearing, I’ve watched many hours of her classes now, and I feel like Im being treated as a 3 year old, not the old bat that I am. I know it must be hard to release a tutor set of videos when theres no one there giving you direct feed back, but this is a tad too patronising.

The irish lady, who does a cable course, is good to listen to – some of the introduction are more about the instructor than the course, but, to be honest, its usually worth a listen.

I would most certainly recommend if you’re looking to learn something about a craft, whether its tatting (filed under crochet for some odd reason), paper craft, cakes, food, you name it.. there could be a good class there…

Let me know if you sign up! I’ll say hi if I see you!

My insomnia saw me watch a lot of crafting videos from craftsy.com. So I decided to start this.

my first electric sewing machine

I have an old hand powered sewing machine. Now I have an electric fancy thing.

These 2 pictures are of some material that came pre sewen. I added the white bits.

knitted moccasins

Posted By on April 28, 2013

Well I made a friend for it so now I have a pair.

They were stunningly simple to make. I probably should put a slight bits of elastic round the foot hole but it doesn’t need much.

If I was to start again I would do garter stich on the band round and moss stitch on the bottom and well anything on the top even if it was a textured pattern but this took 1 50g ball of what I can only call string. It is cotton it has about as much strength as tacking thread but I do like how its turned out! The hardest part was joining the sides at the back. When I’ve learnt apparently the “Italian bind off” I may have another go.

toe up slipper

Posted By on April 21, 2013

Ok. As a first attempt I’m really pleased with this. Its made out of a cotton like string which is sadly a lot more fragile than I realised but its a simple stocking stitch slipper. It might do better with a slight but of elastic around the ankle hole but on the hole its a very pleasing result

I have some leather slipper bottoms at some point I will make some fancy slippers but that’s another day.

I did have other plans but after seeing a toe up sock I was called to make an acutal moccasin type thing as that’s what the toe type is called. It seemed natural to start there. It went quite quick too. I only started this morning.

Things I would do different. I would make the soul different say moss stitch and the sides something else. Maybe twisted stitch. Just to differentiate between the sections.

double knitted bed sock done

Posted By on April 20, 2013

Well. As you can see I have completed the sock. The pale pink side is a bit saggy, but it fits. Its not bad for a first effort.

I did the cuff, heel and toe in single kniting to give it simplicity but ok so its not an out of house sock. And yes. Now I have made 3 odd socks. But its ok.

I think the pale pink is saggier because I changed to circular knitting, and I always said never change hooks during a project and needles the same applies obviously.

looking for a pattern

Ok. These pictures are rubbish, but itfA straight long cardigan with an intresting squared collar. If anyone knows where I can find a similar pattern.

new wool

Posted By on April 16, 2013

Now. You’ve seen my wool room. So you might think that I don’t need any more. Well yes on simplistic terms yes you could be right however right tool right job!

Well I want to knit me a cardigan. Yes knit. May my soul burn in hell. I also don’t intend for my life to be easy. I want to make it a double knit one.

I know roughly what I want it to look like. I just need to find a Patten!

double knit sock

Posted By on April 14, 2013

Ok, remember this is wool I was given free and if they turn out ok. I will make some in a better pair of colours, but, attempting a double knit sock. Really it needs a bit of pattern to mesh the colours so its not two completely independent socks but the heel, toe and cuff should do a fair bit of that as a plan.
