March madness part 2

Posted By on March 10, 2014

So, following the trauma of the blanket, and knowing it’s going to take around 2 weeks to get the yarn, I decided to start a jumper, to be honest, I’m surprised how far I got given I spent most of the afternoon swearing at the white blanket wool, and mooching on websites..

So, here you see the back… I’m not going to list the pattern, it’s a surprise!

March madness part 1

So there I was yesterday morning, happy the sun was out, opened the patio doors cos it was actually warm enough even for me the ice queen….. And well…

Last weekend I started a new ball of white, I knew instantly it didn’t match the last, but, my brain thought it close enough, and in a fairly inconspicuous place, or at least it seemed.

I’m a complete moron….

No, this is not bad lighting causing a shadow, this is apparently what happens when you start in “soft white” and then bought “white” for the project and get this far in…. And the more I worked the more it made the other bit look like I dunked it in my cup of tea, or got it from some old Victorian shop…..

After a fair bit of deliberation, including, shoving it in it’s project bag and trying to ignore it.

I’ve ordered the soft white, and, I’m going to have to unpick all that work….

Hat is done!!

Posted By on February 1, 2014

I am so relieved to say the hat is done. I really enjoyed it till the decreases, when because it was an 8 stitch repeat pattern split into 14 stitch blocks, I had to sit down and draw them out so I could just religiously follow without counting.

Blocking it has proved harder than expected, mainly because I didn’t have anything head shaped to put it on, so, this was my best answer, as nothing else was deep enough.

Hat update

Posted By on January 26, 2014

Getting to the top of the hat now. I do like the yarn. I think by choice I would want to do this hat with say this colour and black, like those old wax crayon drawings you used to get where you did loads of colour, then obliterated it with black and the scratched out a picture. I think it would be also better as double knit.. But of course!!!

So, what do you think??

Fair isle hat grows

Posted By on January 23, 2014

I’m really enjoying this hat, my yarn guide I got is helping to agitate the yarn less too. It’s much faster with the yarn guide as I don’t need to rely on my fingers or use both hands to stop the yarns twisting.

I also saw this kit and felt I had to get it

So, I can see some mittens in my future, although it am tempted to double knit them rather than strand knit them.

The hat intermission

I thought I would show you the fair isle hat I started this weekend, the pattern is a free one and the yarn is mini mochi, it’s really soft, I would love to use it with a solid colour or in an entrelac, I think it would be excellent for that with it’s long gentle graduations.

Back on the blanket!

Posted By on January 15, 2014

A couple of people have asked me about my blanket this week, and I didn’t say but I suddenly realised we are half way through January and I’m not sure I had added a single stitch to it this year. So, the plans of this evening took many routes, including sorting through my knitting needles as I was looking for something, so, this evening I’ve been catching up with recorded tv and making growth on the blanket.. I must not get too side tracked by other projects otherwise in 10 years time I won’t have finished still!!
