one pair of me made socks. Done in drops big fable. Which is nice cos it’s designed for socks but bulkier around Aran weight so they knit up much quicker

Cheaply made circular needles

Posted By on February 17, 2015

Im getting mighty fed up with this. As you may recall i had a cable snap not long into my double knit blanket. Another needle snapped barely a coupke of rows into a sock.

Today

This was not a cheap needle.

Yarn porn

Posted By on January 5, 2015

Now many of us have heard the phrase food porn as watching cooking shows never fails to make you think I could just eat that.

Well. Part of me is proud the other half severely disappointed, as you see, I got one of those scraps bags from world of wool. It was free if you spent 50 quid or something. And in it was this. Sadly this was all there was.

What may not show well on the photo is the gold sparkles. So I have no idea what fibre etc this is but it is super pretty and I managed to ply it up looser than my usual efforts so it really does look so so nice.

Happy new years and resolutions

Posted By on January 1, 2015

I dont really do resolutions, but i do like to think of things I will try and do more or less of to make me and the year better.

Firstly this year I am determined not to buy any much yarn this year.

Second, I want to make a pair of socks out of sock yarn, a pair, not the singles I seem to make out of random yarns. So, to set this in motion. I started some so that it can nag me

Entrelac crochet is now all the rage?

Posted By on December 20, 2014

So, its been a long while since i posted. Im sorry, just havent done much crafting recently. Time has just slipped by.

One thing I have noticed is that the everyone seems to be doing entrelac now, yet when i did it it was all quiet.

So, one of my first entrelacs from August 2012, this was the simple in the round method, but still, seems I was about two years ahead of everyone else!

The lush yarn contined

So. I measure out I had made 5.2m of yarn it weighs less than 1g. But here’s a small swatch.

Does angora felt?

So lush

Posted By on October 7, 2014

I got from eBay that source of evil that shows you a myriad of things you want cheaper than you might have found them some pure angora fibres only 300g mind. Normally 7.50 to 10gbp per 100g. I paid for 300g 6gbp.

So. I’ve spun up a small section not much but a chunk. And plyed it on itself. The pic shows cm so you can see it’s not a big bit but enough to get the feel of it all. Apparently angora is really hard to spin it’s very fine and very short fibres. It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t as hard as I feared.

I will have to knit up a little swatch. It will have to be really little!

Free knitting or crochet lessons in gloucestershire

IMG_0369.JPG

As of today, I’m finally stopping thinking of doing this and getting going.

I have considered for a long time now, offering lessons in all the crafty things I do well enough to consider teaching someone else.

So. From now, currently free, I am offering

Standard crochet
Tunisian crochet
Basic knitting (throw/english, pick/continental, combined or Portuguese)
Intarsia knitting
Stranded/fairisle knitting
Double knitting

In the future I am hoping to add a lot to this list. Including spinning and custom classes where you tell me what you want to learn.

Know anyone who might be interested in being a guinea pig? Or even want to try yourself? Let me know!

Wildcraft fibre club part 2

So. You remember the single I made

IMG_0194.JPG

Well I plied it up by splitting it over 2 bobbins and I have to say the final hank doesn’t show the lovely graceful slow colour changes I ended up with on the bobbin. Should have taken a photo of that.

Thus shows the fibre I started with and my hank
